Projects
Putting convictions into practice.
Working in marine tourism has given me opportunities, friendships and a life of exploration. It has also shown me what happens when commercial ambitions lose sight of the people and environments they depend on.
These projects bring together what I’ve learned and what I believe we can do better: build viable businesses, strengthen the diving profession and give coastal communities a meaningful part in their own future.
This is where I share my involvement, the questions I’m working through and the progress along the way.
Venezuela and the Caribbean · Regional project development
Op Caribe
Op Caribe is the IADP project I’ve taken on here in the region, and a central reason for establishing a base in Caracas. It brings together my experience in diving operations, marine conservation and tourism development with a place where I believe that experience can make a useful contribution.
I see an opportunity to help Venezuela’s marine tourism industry make sound choices as it develops. That means working with local knowledge, understanding what businesses and communities need, and making environmental responsibility part of the foundations.
My work in Sudan taught me how closely marine protection, practical skills and local opportunities are connected. Op Caribe is an opportunity to apply those lessons in a different setting, while listening to the people who know this coastline and depend on it.
The project is being developed. Here, I’ll share the groundwork, challenges and decisions as the work takes shape.
The diving profession · An independent collective voice
IADP
I helped establish the International Association of Dive Professionals with others because I believe the people who earn their living in diving need a stronger collective voice.
The association’s work concerns professional recognition, ethical conduct, practical support and the future of our industry. Helping it grow is one of my strongest commitments.
IADP is an independent nonprofit based in Brussels, with its own mission. On TheOceanRoamer, I can explain why that mission matters to me, discuss the work I contribute and speak personally about the issues behind it.
Marine sustainability · Professional skills in action
Go Blue
Professional divers spend their working lives in the marine environment. Their skills, observations and experience can make a valuable contribution to protecting it.
Through IADP’s Go Blue initiative, I want to help connect that professional capacity with conservation needs and responsible marine tourism. The ambition is practical cooperation: bringing people and knowledge together to address problems and develop workable responses.
Op Caribe sits within that wider effort. Here, I’ll also discuss the practices, choices and contradictions we need to confront if marine sustainability is to mean something in everyday operations.
Socially and environmentally sustainable entrepreneurship
The next Ocean Roamers
I founded Ocean Roamers in 2003. Its next chapter brings together the experience gained since then and a clearer conviction about the kind of company I want to build.
The goal is a commercially viable business that takes responsibility for its effects on people, communities and the marine environment. Consultancy, management and project development provide a way to put those principles to work—and an income that helps make my wider commitments sustainable.
I want a community of like-minded people to have a part in that development: questioning ideas, contributing experience and helping shape the direction as the company evolves.
TheOceanRoamer is where I share that journey in my own voice. OceanRoamers.biz presents the company’s services, experience and commercial work.
This page presents my personal involvement and perspective. Official IADP information is published through the association’s own channels. Any project fundraising presented here will identify who receives the funds and what they support.
